Social Security Trustees Project $190,200 Wage Base for 2027. The Board of Trustees of the Social Security Trust Fund estimates the social security wage base will be $190,200 in 2027 (up from $184,500 this year) and will increase to $267,000 by 2035. The formal announcement of the 2027 wage base will be in mid-October.

IRS Data Affirms Payroll’s Vital Role in Nation’s Tax System. The IRS released its 2025 Internal Revenue Service Data Book, which provides statistics that underscore the importance of payroll professionals to the integrity of the American tax system.

ETAAC Presents 2026 Annual Report to Congress. On June 17, the Electronic Tax Administration Advisory Committee (ETAAC) held a public meeting and released its Annual Report to Congress. The report includes recommendations important to payroll.

SSA Releases Tax Year 2026 W-2 Electronic Filing Specs. The Social Security Administration’s (SSA) tax year 2026 EFW2 and EFW2C booklets, which contain specifications for the electronic filing of Form
W-2, Copy A, and Form W-2c, Copy A, are now available.
